These past couple of days have been filled with tons of different emotions! From feeling totally lethargic and barely able to get out of bed, to being fired up about possibly doing another IM this season, to wondering what my blood test results will show, to contemplating going back to work full time. Well, my doctor decided alot for me, basically that I need REST, and LOTS of it! My blood work came back with alarmingly low levels of electrolytes, iron, magnesium, you name it. Scary, I have been training at 60% of normal levels. At least I now know that I wasn’t going crazy, that my body was really telling me something and that is why I kept getting sick. My body was saying STOP and I just kept ignoring it. Now that explains alot!
Yesterday was my first full day of rest. It was hard at first, but then taking a little stroll to the lake with Belle and watching her play was awesome! I felt refreshed and finally accepted that this is what is best for me now. I was also super excited about getting dressed up for my good friend’s wedding at night. As soon as Reid got home, we were off to Clancy and Mike’s wedding, it was so beautiful and so much fun!! Everyone looked amazing and it was so great to see so many friends.
Today was our 9-4PM coaching clinic for the San Francisco Triathlon at Treasure Island. As always it is so rewarding to coach so many new triathletes. I just love their passion and enthusisam for the sport. It is so contagious! We had a great group today, including an 11 year old star, Emma
Whew, what a great start to the weekend!
Have a great rest of the weekend!
E

Its amazing how hard we push ourselves, and you've been doing that ALL season… working full time and coaching and training and racing as a pro! Yes, some really good R&R is just what the doctor ordered! Rest up, get some good zzzzz's, and enjoy the off season!
PS – you look beautiful!

Yes, it is REALLY hard to rest, isn’t it? It is just not normal…the first few days are tough, but after that, it is easy! HAHA….Try to enjoy it – catch up w/ some old friends and movies and rest that body so you are ON FIRE to race when you can and take care of some unfinished business!

This sounds scarily similar. We’ll have to compare notes on this stuff. (blood work tests coming back poor + ongoing sinus infections- and the bad kind which I know you get). Let me know what they say- I am still trying to figure everything out. I can say that this has been the first time in YEARS that I have gone more than 6 months without getting very sick. I am not sure what has changed, but a lot of other things are still yucky. Anywhoo…What I really wanted to comment on was your dress. I love it!!!! You have great taste in cute dresses!!

I saw them film one clip. It’s not live (one hour delay)so its very off and on and I couldn’t take the smell next to me while being tired on top of all that. Large crowds of people aren’t my thing.
The race was fun!…and awesome weather too! Oh…I didn’t have time to go get my race wheels put on (derailleur needs adjusting when i do that) so I raced with just the front one. haha. I figured one was better than none, and it was a small race anyways. …and yes. she would’ve told me all her kmph averages. lol!!!
call whenever. I have an active recovery week this week since my season is officially over. ps. you look pretty in your pics!
ttyl!

I forgot to tell you that I was playing cat-and-mouse with a 60 year old man on the bike today. haha. no laughing…he did have a 3 min head start on the first run (different wave)and I managed the 3rd female split on the bike so all is still good. I’ve told Scott before that when I’m 80 I’m still gonna race. lol.

Hey E!!
I’m so glad you went to the doctor to get this checked out. I had the same symptoms over the summer and it sucked!! Especially because I wasn’t training for anything in particular, so it was very confusing as to why I was so exhausted. You totally deserve a break and rest, and I hope you are on the mend soon!
Well, it’s looking like I’ll be moving up to the Bay Area (probably Berkeley) around February or March 2009 – Maybe you can show me the best roads and rides of NorCal when I get up there!!
Hugs to you!!

Hey E,
So great to see a picture of you lookin’ all gorgeous and holding a glass of champagne – that’s what I call REST, all right!
Just know that right now you are doing what is best for your body. What will make you stronger in the future, what will allow you to heal up and be the athlete you know you can be. I know that’s corny, but we all know how difficult it can be to rest.
Maybe we can get together one of these days for an easy fun ride somewhere…
TAKE CARE!!!
xoxo Sarah

I hope you are getting better. I’ve had my scary times too with my blood in the past and it makes us thankful for whatever we are able to do. Make sure you get sufficient sleep.
