I LOVE doing any sort of strength training. I have always been addicted to lifting weights. I just love how it makes me feel. I feel strong, powerful, young and healthy when I lift. Sounds crazy to some, but to me it is what I grew up doing being a gymnast and a swimmer.
After having weights and core cut from my schedule last year, I felt blah and knew I needed to get the strength back. So this year I am fully commited to strengthening my body by doing a number of different exercises and core work. I have been so excited that I now have this back into my routine that I have been caught at home lifting after just getting back from the gym. HA! Not much though, we only have 10 lb weights at home and Reid usually gives me the look like ‘what the heck are you doing?” Or I get stopped by Belle licking my face as I do some crunches. If she really wants me to stop, she lays right on top of me and I can’t move. It’s great!
Make sure you’re doing your core work and have fun in the process. It makes you strong, lean and mean
in a good way though
Have fun getting STRONG!!

I was just about to come back to comment on 2009 plans and here’s another post! So… 2009 sounds great AND I’m all about strength training too. Good thing some coaches still let us do it

I’ve got a new core plan.. its mostly ball-related though, I am your opposite when it comes to weights!! Ick
I just want to run all day. Hope you’re having a wonderful Jan and glad to hear you’re doing what you love!

I just got back from a full leg workout and cardio at the gym, have already had my egg whites and oatmeal/bluberries breakfast and it is only 625am AND I am off today. Got up early anyway (alarm went off 4am – the usual) and now I am in for a very productive day getting some things done around the house and around town.
I love weight training!

Me too! I used to lift all the time in HS and college. I love it!
Guess who’s coming to San Fran? Me! We’re going to visit my cousin for spring break (the end of March). It’d be great to see you again if possible!

Nice abs!! It is so much fun to get in the weight room and know you are getting stronger. Gerrrrr!
You comment on the abs and Belle made me laugh, Sky-Marie does the same thing. It’s hard to do situps with 74lbs of dog love sitting on you

Oh yeah, I’m in agreement with you all the way.
Weights and strength training are good for you and now is the season to get at it.
Good post.

Yes! Weights! I started lifting in college when I rowed with a state champion light-weight power lifter. I even had a lifting buddy and we’d be the only girls in the big neck/small legs section. SO fun! I’m glad to be back to getting my strength up this winter!

Lifting is so good for you! Especially to work opposing muscle groups and the muscles that get neglected when overpowered by dominate muscle groups.
I am really into plyometrics and circuit training to give me a boost in HR when I’m lifting at the gym. You look awesome (love the pink pants!)

Speaking of abs…we should talk. I’m trying to get certified to teach some sort of mat exercise – basically at the end of spin we do 10-15 minute ab session and I SUCK AT TEACHING ABS. (I know it’s not good self-talk, but really…I kind of do…)
Maybe you have some suggestions on where I can start??
Happy New Year, E!! I know there’s some distance between us but I do hope that 2009 affords us an opportunity to meet and get a run or ride in together!!
Congrats on the new sponsor, too. I think 2009 is going to be AWESOME for you.

Yes Marni, for sure let’s get together while you are in town

I go through phases with the weights. I am in a no weights phase right now. I am a former gymnast as well, although where it looks like you have maintained a lot of your strength, sadly I haven’t done the same.

You could probably lift and then balance one of those 10 lb weights on your finger after your background in gymnastics!

Ha ha Belle! Rooney is the worst about that with crunches…I think the minute you are on the floor you are fair game to to them. I love it! Okay, you have motivated me to lift tonight, after I suffer through another 5k.

Love the P&P collars! But wow 100 color choices – though with the 10% difference that's like "buy 10, get one free!" Excellent! Very exciting news for the rest of that post too – be nice to those high school boys on the track! hahaha. As for gymnastics – I agree the strength remains an addictive side effect for life, too bad my abs forgot to remain the same!

E- I was soooo close to catching Lance on Queen K. It was fun. But if anyone has connections into Lance’s circle where I could meet him, I would treat everyone to a special dolphin swim!!
Cheers and all my best for your 2009 season!!!
Don’t forget my LOST episode!!!
